Ce ste sindromul metabolic?

Sindromul metabolic reprezinta denumirea comuna pentru un cumul de factori care favorizeaza cresterea riscului cardiovascular:

  • hipertensiune arteriala
  • obezitate
  • diabet
  • dislipidemie (valoari anormale ale lipidelor in sange)

Toti acesti factori reprezinta fiecare in sine un risc pentru bolile cardiovasculare (alaturi de fumat si stres) insa combinatia dintre ele creste riscul global.
In general, o persoana care sufera de obezitate are de obicei si hipertensiune. Ori cel ce sufera de diabet zaharat are destul de des si valori ale trigliceridelor crescute. Acesti patru factori de risc apar atat de des impreuna astfel incat luati laolalta reprezinta fundamentul aceleiasi tulburari a organismului numit sindromul metabolic.

Federatia internationala de diabet da urmatoarea definitie: prezinta un risc de sindrom metabolic cei care au:
Grasime viscerala plus cel putin doua dintre urmatoarele:
– trigliceride crescute in sange
– colesterolul bun HDL scazut
– hipertensiune arteriala
– diabet tip 2 sau intoleranta la glucoza

Un sfert din populatia adulta de pe glob sufera de sindromul metabolic. Persoanele cu sindrom metabolic sunt de doua ori mai predispuse si de trei ori mai susceptibile in a suferi un atac de cord sau accident vascular cerebral.

Care sunt cauzele?

De ce sufera unii oameni de sindrom metabolic? Ce cauzeaza aparitia lui? Este evident ca factorii ce conduc la cresterea riscului dobandirii bolilor coronariene reprezinta si cauzele aparitiei sindromului. La acestea se adauga insa asa numita rezistenta la insulina.

Insulina reprezinta hormonul esential pe care pancreasul il secreta cu scopul de a regla glicemia din sange. Imediat dupa ce consumam o masa ce contine carbohidrati, acestia sunt defalcati in glucoza – principala sursa de energie a organismului (la persoanele care consuma mese bogate in glucide). Atunci cand exista o rezistenta la insulina, pancreasul trebuie sa produca o cantitate mult mai mare de insulina pentru a mentine nivelul zaharului in sange la un nivel acceptabil. In ciuda faptului ca pancreasul produce o cantitate suficienta de insulina, celulele din organism sunt rezistente la efectele acesteia.

Rezistenta la insulina este o afectiune care, din pacate, detine un puternic factor genetic, care poate fi transmis din generaie in generatie. Unii oameni sunt pur si simplu mult mai inclinati genetic sa dezvolte rezistenta la insulina, astfel crescand si riscul de a suferi de sindromul metabolic.

Cum prevenim sindromul metabolic? Se poate trata?

Sindromul metabolic se poate si preveni si trata, odata instalat.
Factorii de risc care au condus la aparitia lui trebuie controlati, astfel:
– controlul greutatii corporale
– scaderea glicemiei (>=6 mmol/l inainte de masa)
– cresterea valorii colesterolului bun HDL (>1,0 mmol/l la barbati si >1,3 mmol/l la femei)
– controlul tensiunii arteriale (<130/85)
– scaderea trigliceridelor in sange (<1,7 mmol/l)
Insa cum controlam acesti factori de risc? Ce schimbare putem face in viata noastra care sa fie si de lunga durata si care sa ne ajute sa combatem simultan si obezitatea, si trigliceride crescute si glicemia etc? Raspunsul?  Restrictia consumului de carbohidrati. Toti carbohidratii, atat cei cu ardere rapida cat si cei cu ardere lenta, dupa masa, sunt defalcati in stomac in zaharuri simple. Acestea sunt preluate de catre sange si cresc nivelul glicemiei. Un aport scazut de carbohidrati in dieta favorizeaza un nivel normal al zaharului in sange si totodata o productie normala de insulina de catre pancreas.
